Join us in Rhode Island
New England holds many special places for both of us, but Rhode Island is one of our favorite places. If you have the opportunity to explore before or after the wedding, here are some spots we love.
Things to do
-
Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, Providence
An annual Roger Williams Park Zoo tradition, enjoy walking through the glow of thousands of hand-carved pumpkins! Tickets required in advance
-
The Herreshoff Marine Museum, Bristol
In 1971, A. Sidney DeWolf Herreshoff and Rebecca Chase Herreshoff founded the Herreshoff Marine Museum to preserve and perpetuate the legacy and accomplishments of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company and its founders, John Brown Herreshoff and Nathanael Greene Herreshoff. The Museum boasts over seventy significant boats—many of which you can step aboard!—ranging from the 8½' dinghy, NATHANAEL to the 75' DEFIANT, built in 1992 for the successful defense of the America's Cup. The museum was also in the running for the wedding venue!
-
Newport Cliff Walk
Newport's enchanting 3.5-mile Cliff Walk showcases panoramic ocean views, crashing waves, the perfect amount of sea breeze, and stunning, century-old, Gilded Age mansions on the other.
-
Newport Car Museum
The larger of two Car Museums, this private collection of 100+ automobiles focuses on eight decades of modern industrial automotive design and celebrates cars as works of art. From the 1950s to the present, separate galleries for Ford/Shelby Cars, Corvettes, World Cars, Porsches, Fin Cars, Muscle Cars and Mopars have been carefully curated. It's a wild museum!
-
Wine Tasting
Shepherd's Run isn't the only great vineyard in Rhode Island. Rhode Island’s coastal location and spring-fall climate makes for surprisingly tasty terroir.
Places to eat
-
Trinity Brewhouse
If you're venturing into Providence, Trinity Brewhouse was one of Altair's haunts in college. Stay on the first floor for standard dining, or head to the basement for a round of pool while you sip your pint. Pete loved the place when he walked in, but it was the pulled pork nachos that made Trinity a required stop when he'd visit Altair.
-
Coast Guard House
One of the first places Chase brought Altair to in Rhode Island was the Coast Guard House. Set on Narragansett Bay, you can enjoy the view whether you're out on the rooftop patio, inside in the main restaurant, or cozied up in their seasonal igloos. It's one of the few places where the food is as excellent as the view.
-
Stoneacre Brasserie
When you want a great bite at a great price with great service, Stoneacre doesn't disappoint. Perfect for any meal of the day, and with excellent espresso drinks and cocktails to boot.
Espresso
-
Coffee Exchange
Many a paper was written by Altair on her laptop in the middle of her all-time favorite coffee shop, Coffee Exchange, in Providence. It wasn't because of the quiet atmosphere (it's almost always jumping)—It was the quality of the espresso! If Altair or Pete have made you a latte at their place, it was with Coffee Exchange espresso. And if you've admired Pete's engagement ring, that's the same espresso inlaid in the ring!
-
Empire Tea & Coffee
Empire Tea & Coffee can be found around Newport and Bristol, and they do a solid job.
-
Queen of Cups
The best espresso joint in Narragansett by far!
-
Audrey's Coffee House & Lounge
The best espresso shop nearest Shepherd's Run.
